Effects of Problem Gambling

Problem gambling can lead to …
  • Indebtedness.

  • Family and relationship break down.

  • Problems concentrating at work.

  • Problems staying in employment.

  • Illegal activities to pay for gambling behaviour.

  • Stress related health problems.

  • Depression and suicide attempts.

Note:

The use of alcohol and drugs in combination with problem gambling can lead to further problems. Suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts are also not uncommon among serious problem gamblers.

The effects of problem gambling can be devastating to gamblers and their families. If you have, or suspect, a problem with gambling do something about it right away before it gets worse. Help is available in many areas in the form of professional counselling, self-help groups and mental health professionals.
