Handling Slips

Questions to ask yourself after a slip:

Here is a list of questions you can print out and answer, or have a supportive person read out to you. Answer them as honestly as possible. You can then discover things to help you strengthen your recovery.

  • How how much of the following did you have:
    • before play:
      • alcoholic drinks?
      • cigarettes?
      • tea, coffee, coke etc?
      • other(drugs)?
    • during play:
      • alcoholic drinks?
      • cigarettes?
      • tea, coffee, coke etc?
      • other(drugs)?
    • after play:
      • alcoholic drinks?
      • cigarettes?
      • tea, coffee, coke etc?
      • other(drugs)?
  • Where did you get the funds to gamble? How much from each of these sources:
    • Savings?
    • Pay?
    • Family?
    • Friends?
    • Bank loan?
    • Sold personal property?
    • Sold others property?
    • Stolen?
    • Other sources?
  • What did you feel like before you gambled?
  • What did you feel like while you gambled?
  • What did you feel like after you gambled?
  • What did you think about before you gambled?
  • What did you think about while you gambled?
  • What did you think about after you gambled?
  • What did you say to yourself before you gambled?
  • What did you say to yourself while you gambled?
  • What did you say to your self after you gambled?

Consider all the things you felt, thought, and said to yourself. Which ones did not help you achieve your goal. Go back over your answers and find the ones which can help you to achieve your goal.

Don't quit on yourself. Stay positive, and get help if you need it!
