Safety and Emergency Response Team (SERT)

The SERT is a service contracted to BLP (Business Loss Prevention) for the whole of Groote Eylandt.  It offers an emergency fire and ambulance service and has facilities for rescue.  Any member of the community may volunteer and be trained by the team

The Team was winner of the Northern territory Mines rescue Competition in 1998, 1999 and 2000, winning 

• Best first aid
• Best medic
• Theory
• Hazchem
• Best overall team

Training qualifications are available to members :-

• Certificate II & III in Fire Fighting and 
• Ambulance Officer Level II with St John Ambulance
