ROWELL HIGHWAY

This road connects Alyangula with Angurugu and the mine site.  It is 16 kilometres of straight road, with just one bend.   These two photos were taken from the same spot, showing the road heading off to the horizon in each direction.  The first photograph is looking north and the second south.

The power poles visible off to the side of the highway are a valuable reference marker.  Each pole is numbered from "1" near town to approximately "100" at the mine site.  An example of these numbers is shown below.  It is usual to give directions such as "Turn left at pole 42".
