BATCHELORS BUTTONS

These small flowers, also called kurrajong, are very common on Groote Eylandt.  Their scientific name is brachychiton paradoxum   The small round heads are deep pink like this when newly bloomed, then fade to cream dry balls.  They are well suited to the island, growing prolifically in sand (as shown) and other media which only vaguely resembles soil.
