EMERALD RIVER

Emerald River is a popular and easy-to-reach recreation spot on the main road south of Angurugu.  Take the Angurugu bypass road around the back (west) of Angurugu until you meet the main south road, then past the "jungle", G Quarry rehab area, South Point Access road turnoffs and D Quarry road.

Park just past the bridge to swim in the upstream pool or turn right just before the bridge and drive along until the track stops at an obvious parking/turning area.  There are at least two good swimming holes with the one upstream (at the bridge) being shallow enough in most places for small children. There is a natural spa just downstream, where the river runs over a white clay ledge into a deeper pool. The area is surrounded by lush growth and has a "tropical" feel.

You don't need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to reach Emerald River. Be sure to respect the area and take your rubbish home.
