JAGGED HEAD

Jagged Head (Mungwarndumanja) is a large island off the north-east coast of Groote Eylandt.  You need a four wheel drive vehicle to reach the area by the route shown.  The last 7 km is largely along the beach. The island is then accessible by boat, or at low tide, by foot across a sand bar.

There are beautiful beaches and snorkelling spots on Jagged's sheltered eastern side.

It is a spectacular spot to explore and it is well worth camping if you have a few days.  There is a distinct campsite on your left after you pass the last lot of rocks and emerge onto the beach with Jagged Head in front of you.

There is another spot, more suited to picnic than camp (?), under a tree further along the beach past the sandbar (see photograph from this website's home page).

Respect the area and take your rubbish with you.
