TOP
CROSSING AND
THE CAVE PAINTINGS
Top Crossing and the Cave Paintings nearby, are ideal for a half day outing e.g. a walk up to and on top of the paintings outcrop with views as far as Bickerton Island, followed by a picnic next to the rapids at the crossing (or vice versa).
Top Crossing is a water catchment area and therefore swimming is not allowed. Remember you will be drinking that water in Alyangula in a few days!
The surface of the track is hard (i.e. there is no soft sand) and the way is easy to follow. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle for Top Crossing itself.
The surfaces at the crossing can be slippery so care should be taken with small children.
As is the case on other off-lease areas, taking or consuming alcohol at Top Crossing or the Cave Paintings is prohibited. Respect the area and take your rubbish home.
