Notes : Parish registers for St. Bartholomew, Scammonden, Microfilm #1542203 Mother is identified as a widow at the time of this child's birth which would be accurate. William and Sarah lived at Yews for most of their married life and had a large family. He was a farmer. When his father-in-law, William Berry, died in 1812, along with his wife Sarah, he was a major beneficiary of the will. William Berry had property at Upper Wellhouse, Golcar, which would seem to be substantial as there were three tenants. Under the terms of the will he gained a third of the rent from this. The couples children inherited a third of the monies made from the sale of the property upon their parents death. In the census of 1841, William is described as an agricultural labourer. He and his wife Sarah were by that time living with their eldest son, Luke, at Delph Hall. By that date, Luke was a widower living with his eight year old daughter, Sarah.
