NSWGR SEVEN TON LUFFING CRANE LOCOMOTIVE $350

Between 1914 and 1925, the English firm of Hawthorn Leslie delivered six of these crane locos to the N.S.W.G.R., a further two being supplied in 1950 from Robert Stephenson-Hawthorn in England. These crane locos were unique in NOT having a cable and powered drum to do the work, the hoisting being done by luffing or lifting the jib. The jib was fitted with three hooks, the one at the end could lift 3 ½ tons, in the middle 5 tons and the one nearest the loco, 7 tons. A small steam powered unit was used to rotate the jib through 360 degrees. On top of the side tank, drivers side, was a huge steam powered generator for powering an electro magnet suspended from the jib for picking up steel objects. These incredibly powerful locos, for their size, were extremely versatile and could be seen doing anything from towing 38's around the yard to picking up bogies or scrap metal. They lasted until the end of steam and at least two have been preserved.

The kit is complete with Romford wheels, worm and gear, Mashima motor, etched brass valve gear, lost wax brass castings and of course the crisp whitemetal castings you have come to expect in Berg's steam and diesel loco kits. All you need to buy are paint , transfers, glue and couplers. And we can supply them too !

These Baldwin built ten wheelers were used on country passenger and goods trains right up to 1949 on the N.S.W. railway system. This HO scale loco kit is complete with wheels, gearbox and motor. It consists of very high quality whitemetal and brass castings.
