You start with a settler or two, and must begin by founding a city. Cities grow and can build more settlers, military units, city improvements or Wonders of the World. Wonders of the World are buildings which can only be built once in the entire game (ie. only one player gets it), or, with small wonders in Civ 3, only one by every player. Cities also work towards new technologies, and collect money. You can use Diplomacy and Trade to work towards your goal, or simply conquer everyone. You must decide whether to govern you civilization by Despotism, Monarchy, Republic. Communism, Democratic, or Fundamentalism (in Civ 2 only). Using a balance of knowledge, money and military units, you must keep your citizens happy and win by conquering the world or building a Spaceship, as well as some new victory conditions in Civilization 3 like Cultural Victory or U.N. Victory. This is the basic concept behind all 3 Civilization games. While the units, graphics, and other things may change, you must still stand the Test of Time.
