Things to do

Coochiemudlo Island ( Coochie) is a beautiful sub-tropical island boasting calm waters , sandy beaches and a very laid-back atmosphere. The quiet lifestyle, the plethora of fauna and flora, the surrounding fisheries of Moreton Bay and the proximity to the Mainland make Coochie a very special holiday destination.

The name “Coochiemudlo” means “red rock” and refers to the red basaltic cliffs on the South-West of the island. This feature is uncharacteristic for the island as a whole which is fringed with sandy beaches and the blue waters of Moreton Bay.

Coochie is small enough to walk around in an hour or to take the local bus tour. The island harbours several ecosystems – from the sandy beaches to the mangrove areas ( complete with Queensland mud crabs) to the Melaleuca wetlands and open woodlands. It seems that nothing is more than a 15 minute walk on Coochie.

The beaches on the southern and eastern shores are popular for aquatic pursuits – sailing, windsurfing, paddle boats, hire motor boats and patrolled areas for swimming. From the beach or a short row from the shore there is a piscatorial smorgasbord awaiting your baited hook, and those sand crabs and mud crabs will put a smile on any angler’s face.

It’s low key, but a nine hole golf course, a croquet club and tennis facilities are available. Redland Bay ( a short bus trip from Victoria Point) provides a quality 18 hole golf course.

While you are preparing lunch on one of the many BBQ facilities provided and maintained by the Redland Shire Council, you can gaze across the water and play spot-the-dugong or dolphin.

The island offers a restaurant and café and the passenger ferry will take you to within a 5 minute walk of Mainland restaurants.

Victoria Point offers a Woolworths shopping complex which will deliver to Coochie.
