The Gil Boyd Memorial
Shield
The Gil Boyd Memorial Shield is awarded
to the Croydon Rangers Club person of the Year, voted upon
by fellow members of this organisation. It is awarded to the
person who dedicates great time and effort assisting in the
successful operation of the club, and who shows loyalty and
pride to the organisation, whether that be on or off the field.
The trophy is named after the father
of three of the Club's original members. In the early days
when the Boyd household was always generously opened up to
the Rangers, Gil Boyd was there, not only showing great loyalty
to his sons, but to the club as a whole. Although Gil had
no official role in the running of the club he was always
supportive of its activities and was highly respected by all
members.
After his unexpected death, it was
decided that his contributions to the Club should not be forgotten,
and following from this the Gil Boyd Memorial Shield was born.
