YAMAHA XZ 550 "TYPE 11U"

Original English/Italiano or Deutsch/Français .gif scans ~ 100K.

I got mine from Visit Motohaus Marketing (Basingstoke, UK). via http://www.net-biker.co.uk and when I last looked, this was their catalogue and price list, I strongly recommend email or telephone enquiries to confirm these details. I am not receiving any consideration from these people in return for these pages. (ie. this is not "Cash for Comment").

Mivv Silencer Graphic

I have reproduced a localised translation of the fitting instructions below. This is more so that any of you reading this understand just exactly what you are getting yourselves into when you buy these. Also as HTML this takes a lot less time to load than a scanned page. After I have completed my project I will add a retrospective report page. This is a "cut and weld" solution and adds two extra clamps to the end-to-end system.

MIVV Logo KIT CONTENT (Made in Italy).

- 2 Mufflers
- 2 Pipe Clamps
- 2 Sockets (Unions)

Note: The sockets have been placed inside the mufflers for shipping, and the clamps are pre-fitted to the mufflers..

REMOVAL OF THE EXISTING MUFFLERS

  1. Loosen the clamps securing the collector box to the downpipes.
  2. Unscrew the bolts of the muffler fixing brackets from the frame.
  3. Take down the existing muffler assembly.

INSTALLATION OF THE MIVV MUFFLERS

  1. Using a cutoff wheel, carefully remove the chrome plated screens by cutting through the welding stitches (A) which fix them to the collector box. Set these aside for re-attachment later.
  2. Cut off the old mufflers through the welding area as shown in the drawing (B).
  3. Carefully clean the fresh cuts on the collector box and remove any welding residue.
  4. Re-mount the collector box assembly on the downpipes and tighten the clamps.
  5. Insert the supplied sockets (C) into the clamped area of the new mufflers, leaving loose.
  6. Mount the new mufflers on the motorcycle by their brackets.
  7. Position each muffler and socket so that the best fit is obtained and tack weld the sockets to the collector box with 3 stitches each.
  8. Take down the silencers and the collector box. Separate them.
  9. Weld the sockets with a continuous weld bead. You may wish to "outsource" this work.
  10. Tack weld the chrome screens back into their original positions and paint the unchromed areas with "SILVERAL" aluminium type high temperature resistant paint. Remount the collector box, tightening the downpipe clamps.
  11. Mount the silencers to the frame by their brackets after slipping them over the sockets, which might do with a tad of muffler assembly paste.
  12. Tighten the fixing brackets to clamp the new mufflers firmly to the collector box.
