Can you hear me?

This was a question that a couple of people asked me before switch on and after surgery. No I could not! Well, no more than I could before surgery, maybe a little less as I have now no hearing naturally in right ear at all.

Without the external processor the inside bit (technical term 'Electrode Array) does nothing.

So I will keep pretending that I do hear you just to see how long it takes you to work it out.

Post Switch - On - yes I can 'hear' you. But it is still very much unintelligible through CI. But I have noticed there is less repeating than before when wearing hearing aid in the other ear.

What does it sound like after Switch-On?

Ummmm - how do I explain this. It does sound a little weird and horrible on it's own. I would imagine that if I did not wear a hearing aid in other ear, it would be quite overwhelming, but having said that, it really does vary from person to person. I can pick out pulses of speech and other sounds. At the moment, in noisy environments it is all one mess of sound. I have to admit that this is probably the hardest question to answer.

Do you sleep with CI on?

No - the external processor comes off and it has it's own bed to sleep in. The implant comes to bed with me as it is there forever!

Any Pain?

Post surgery there was a 'numb' pain around the operation site behind the ear. When I wore reading glasses, they tended to push the scar at little which was a little sore.

Post switch-on. None at all. It really has been a blessing and quite boring really. As much as the surgery pics look bad, I really didn't feel it too much.
