I read somewhere recently that a home page of this sort is like a storeroom. I guess that is a good description of this web, it a place to put the things that don’t really fit in to the main work I am doing on the web. I like storerooms, they tend to have stuff in them that is novel and interesting. I hope visitors to my site find that is the case.
For those who are wondering, do I know this person? I realise that there are a lot of Brian Powell’s out there. In fact I checked some time ago how many there were in New York and discovered there were at least six, just in New York. Well, to help clarify things I was born in Melbourne, moved to Queensland and lived for some time in New Zealand. I hope that is enough of a clue to people that may know me to recognise which Brian Powell I am. And while I am on the topic of the past I would love to hear from old friends so please drop me a line.
Some years ago I decided to study web development. I had been painting at the time and thought if I developed an art gallery I might be able to sell art straight off the net. So I bought a book on HTML and began to read. At the time I thought the time frame for learning web development might take a week or two, now five years later; I am still learning. I cannot claim to have painted too much since my study of web development began, but I can tell you I have learnt quite a bit about the internet and how it works. On this particular web I post my poems paintings and songs. I appreciate that in comparison to many artists my work may not rate high. Still that does not mean I cannot choose to call my work art. The work is my art. And I would encourage any artists to publish their material in a way similar to what I have presented here.
Apart from a desire to be creative and express myself. I use my art as a means to measure my progress. I could measure my progress financially, or by time, for me though art is a much more interesting way of gaining a better understanding of myself and the world that I live in. That may sound self indulgent and to a certain extent it is, on the other hand, it is not self indulgent because it is my deliberate intent to create something that is positive, my hope is someone may find my work helpful or satisfying.
I hope you enjoy what I have presented.
