Mingara Championship 2005

After 7 rounds of chess we have joint winners of the Mingara CC Championships Mal and Dennis tied for first on six from a possible seven. Mal finished undefeated dropping half points to Branko and Joe. Dennis had only one loss to Mal. The last round was not without drama with Dennis losing a piece for 2 pawns against Joe on move 15, Things looked grim for Dennis. But the tide turned with Dennis' aggressive king side pawn storm eventually breaking through and catching Joe out. Congratulations to Branko for taking out 3rd place with 5 points.The tournament was divided into 3 divisions, Open, Division 1 and Division 2. Joe Keaveney took out first place in Division 1 with 4.5 points, closely followed by Harvey Adams 2nd on 4 points and Don Skulimowski 3rd on 3.5. Division 2 was a case of trophies for everyone with Ern Svendsen winning on 3 points and a 4 way tie for second place between Hughie Windsor, John Kadlubek, Adam Miller and Barry Maddy. Prizes for the club championship will be handed out at our Presentation Night on December 19th. The Chess club will be open for social chess on the public holiday on October the 3rd. Our Next tournament will be the Points Handicap Tournament starting - October 10th - 25 min per player per game - 6 rounds 2 rounds per night. Players are allocated points at the start of the tournament - the lower your rating the more points you receive.
