20 players participated in the annual Mingara versus the World Match. Kasparov did not turn up again, maybe he is worried he might get beat by John Nutter! The players we fairly closely matched for ratings (except for board 1 and that could not be helped). Surprisingly Mingara won the Match 7 points to 3. Mal was two pieces up against Branko and managed to give one back then get stuck in a perpetual check. John Nutter was in trouble against Paul Reynolds but managed to pull it out of the fire. In all it was a close fought match and the score does not reflect the closeness.
