Wyong Shire Cup 2004 - Round 7

Congartulations to Hani Malik winning the Wyong Shire Cup with a perfect score and to Ivan Kodzoman claiming second place ahead of John Nutter third. Division 1 was keenly contested with a 4 way tie for 1st between Joe Frias, Tony Eves, Don Skulimowski,  and Val Velyvis all finishing on 4 points. Division 2 finished in a 3 way tie between Barry Maddy , Rosalinda Pritchard and Brett Doering  all with 3 points. Barry's performance stood out with Barry performing more than 500 points above his rating. Prizes will be handed out at the Annual Mingara V the world Match on Monday 3rd of May 7.30pm There are some games from the last round highlighted in blue below.

Either way Fritz's suggestion would have been a lot more comfortable for white and I did not even

opens the game up. Mike is stronger than I am and I didn't like the look of
two knights against his two bishops so I decided to keep it closed and
hopefully pile the pressure on.. After the foregoing moves 20.& 21 Chessmaster
gives the following 22. a4-c3 b7xf3 23. g2xf3 f6xc3 24. b2xc3 f8-f7 25. f3-f4
g7-g6 26. f2-f3 a8-c8 27. g1-f2 g8-g7. I tried to prevent the doubling and
isolating of the pawns against Chessmaster and was soundly beaten.} 20... Rfd8
21. Nd7 {Premature, I should have played Nc3} 21... Rxd7 22. Rxd7 Bc6 23. Rxe7
Qxe7 24. Nc3 Re8 25. f4 Qf6 26. Nb5 Bxb5 {Here I had planned b3 first but in
the manner of at least 50% of my blunders I went on to think on whether there
was a better plan and then coming back to actually make my move forgot the
necessary preliminary.} 27. cxb5 Qxb2 28. Qb3 Qxb3 29. axb3 {I know that
theoretically I should not hav exchanged queens and doubled and isolated my
pawns but this had the practical advantage of "unpassing" the passed pawn}

plan had been "knock off the rooks and then advance the King to e3 but
bringing my thoughts back to making the move my hand grasped the King and
