Gaspard Poussin (1615-1675), brother-in-law and pupil of Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), whose name he adopted. Landscape artist combining heroic themes as favoured by Poussin with tonal lighting qualities of Gellée Claude (1600-1682). Immensely popular during the 18th century.
