Albury
(New South Wales)
25-27 March 2005

The Seventh Australian Narrow Gauge Convention was held at the Henry Nowik Lecture Centre on the city campus of Charles Sturt University in Albury, New South Wales (on the Murray River, the border of Victoria).

This convention, well, very nearly wasn’t! After a false start in Robina on Queensland’s Gold Coast and some further delays following its relocation south, Bernard Snoodyk gained the assistance of seven experienced organisers of past conventions: John Dennis, Prof Klyzlr (a.k.a. John Dimitrievich), Laurie Green, Gavin Hince, Gary Kirby, Grant McAdam and Rod Parker. (In addition, the efforts of two individuals involved before this augmentation occured must also be recognised, and we thank both Ron Aubrey of Queensland and Murray Scholz of New South Wales.)

Together, this team made short work of the planning and execution of the convention with more than 110 registrants enjoying several presentations by Charlie Getz of Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette fame, eight lectures, 12 workshops, four focus groups and eight display layouts. As usual, many traders and narrow gauge societies kept us entertained, and a comprehensive convention book was produced covering all the activities and running to 189 pages.
