From humble beginnings in 1996 when Melbourne’s Croydon Narrow Gauge Group (CNGG) hosted the first-ever convention, the Australian Narrow Gauge Conventions are now recognised as the premier narrow gauge event on the continent.  There have now been eight conventions: four in Melbourne, with one in each of Blackheath NSW (in the Blue Mountains), Brisbane QLD, Sydney NSW, and Albury NSW (on the Victorian Border).

2007 saw the convention return to Melbourne for the fourth time, organised by a team of six, all of whom had been on the committee of one or more the past three Melbourne conventions or the most recent convention held in Albury in 2005.  (Indeed, both Grant McAdam and Gary Kirby have been organisers of five conventions each!)
