Green & Golden Bell Frog
Litoria aurea
Green & Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea )
Active: Summer
Length: 50 - 108mm
Satus: Endangered
This species was common throughout N.S.W. but now declined dramatically in numbers, reasons for which are unclear. Some would
argue that the introduction of the fish Gambusia affinis is implicated. A striking colour combination of green and gold. Usually the
background is green with gold irregular large spots or stripes, the amount of gold is variable and may even be absent. The groin area
is a distinctive turquoise blue.
Call: A long, deep sonorous drone followed by a series of grunts, like a motorcycle changing gears.
