RESCUE OUR LITTLE GREEN FRIENDS
For many years frogs have been accidentally displaced from the rural and interstate areas in the transporting of
fruit and vegetable boxes, cut flower trade and by bulk plant wholesalers. These little guys are often sick or diseased, their prospects
for survival are poor. Furthermore they pose a possible disease threat to local specie populations if released. In November 1999
S.O.F.A.R. sort to address this problem creating a Frog Rescue Service in Newcastle and the Hunter region. This service was modeled
on a similar service which was created by ( F.A.T.S. ), the Frog And Tadpole Society of Sydney in October 1998. A couple of times each
week a frog rescuer visits the market/business leaving plastic tanks, so the staff can house the frog when found and picking up any new
arrivals. From their they go into a quarantine program for a period of 8 weeks. Strict records must be kept such as : where frogs were
collected from, survival rate, where frogs go to eat. Then the happy healthy frogs will be ready for adoption and a new home. Those
potential frog owners must have a frog licence which can be obtained from the N.S.W. National Parks and Wildlife Service.
