Australia & NZ Hodkinsons & Hodgkinsons

On this page I hope to be able to act as a contact point for all Hodkinson and Hodgkinson researchers in Australia and NZ.  I would envisage storing data in a fairly simple format with contact details for each researcher, email addresses of course and perhaps brief histories or biographies and downloadable GEDCOM files, much along the following lines :

HODGKINSON, Abraham. Born in Cheshire ?  Married Harriet Faithful in Victoria in 1850 ? Five children born between 1845 (?) and 1860; Maria, William, Marion, Sarah and Abraham.  William married Alice Sophia Behn, 19th February 1873.  Twelve children, among them Herbert Victor who married Lillian May Cottrill on the 1st March 1918.  Herbert and Lillian had 9 children. HODKINSON, Arthur.  Born 17th September 1874, Ashton, Preston, Lancashire.  Father George, mother Mary Sophia née Davison. Came to Australia in the 1900s and married Sarah Jane Johnstone, 20th November 1915, Sydney, New South Wales.  Two children, William Arthur, born 27th July 1918, and Catherine Beryl, born 28th August 1920.  Contact Ian Hodkinson.

HODKINSON, Arthur Philip.  Arrival details unknown.  Probably born about 1850. Arthur, a miner, married Ann Harrison at Ballarat in 1874.  They had two children, Arthur William and Emily Sarah at Huntley, north of Bendigo.  They then moved to Queensland, probably Gympie, where they had a further six children, probably in Gympie.  John Albert, their son, born June 28th 1884 married Gertrude Adelaide Morters at Rockhampton on 19th October 1907.  Contact Marg.

HODGKINSON, Henry.  Arrival details unknown.  Married Jane Leeming in 1849 in Sydney, NSW.  They had 10 children, the third, William Leeming Hodgkinson married Catherine Marion Swain at Monaro, NSW on 22nd May 1878.  Five children from this marriage, the eldest, Catherine Alice born 30th March 1879 at Pambula, NSW.  She married Herbert Southwell Cripps at Redfern, NSW on the 12th January 1909.  Contact David Cripps.  Download GEDCOM file, 94 kb.

HODGKINSON, John.  Born Lambert Hill, England, 20th July 1840.  Came to NZ in his early 20s and settled at Winton.  Married Hannah Dyke, 17th September 1876.  Five children between 1865 and 1887.  John, the eldest, married Lizzie Caughey, on 13th May 1907 and worked in Queensland, Australia, eight children born in north Queensland and NZ.  Another son, Cornelius Hodgkinson was the grandfather of Peter Hodgkinson of Tully Heads, contact via Ian Hodkinson.
