    Dating Australian Bottles

I get a lot of emails asking how to date Australian bottles, I have put together a list of Glass Makers and Dates which can be used as a guide.
These are not indepth histories of the Glassmakers just a guide to help you date your bottles.
A lot of Australian Bottles were made by English Companies which I have included the names of Companies that I know have produced Australian Trade Marked Bottles.
I don't have pictures of every stamp but they will be added when they become available.

    British Registration Diamond

Between 1842 and 1883 there was a system in place of regestering some British metal, wood, glass and ceramic items, the aim was to show that the item was registered, it now provides collectors with a very accurate way of dating items bearing the diamond.
This diamond could be on glass bottles, or an underglaze stamp on ceramics or carver or burnt into wood.
There are two diamonds in the example graphic image below, the diamond on your left was used until 1868 the one on your right was used from 1868 to 1883.

The Diamond on your left used up to 1868, and Diamond on your right used after 1868       An example of a British Registration Diamond, this one dates 1872
