The Battle of Midway Roundtable is a forum heavily focussed on the Battle of Midway but it permits discussion of US Navy history ranging from Pearl Harbor to Midway. There is a distinct US Navy orientation about most of the discussions, but people of all ages and from all walks of life with an interest in the Battle of Midway are encouraged to join. Members of this forum include veterans of the Pacific War 1941-45. One attractive feature of this forum that is noticeably missing from some forums is the invariable courtesy shown to members and the strict curbing by the moderator of any rudeness directed by one member to another. This forum has an associated Battle of Midway web-site that includes links to other Batttle of Midway web-sites.

The History Channel provides a forum for discussion of historical topics ranging from ancient to modern history. When last visited there was a World War II forum that was sinking under the weight of postings addressing a multitude of aspects of this very broad theme. At the very least, the World War II forum needed to be divided into categories, such as Pacific War, European Theatre, North Africa.

As its name suggests, this forum is dedicated to the Nazis, the Imperial Japanese, and others comprised within the description of "Axis". Discussions on any forum should be courteously guided and facilitated by moderators, but my brief experience with this forum left me with the distinct impression that the so-called "moderators" who exercise autocratic control over discussions do not appreciate this. I was surprised to find that rudeness exhibited by one of the so-called "moderators" not only went unchecked but appeared to be condoned. I was also surprised to find that a so-called "moderator" was permitted to cull a large quantity of material from various history web-sites and simply dump a 50-page hotchpotch of this lifted material on forum members under the guise of it being a posting related to Japanese bombing of Clark Field in December 1941! In stark contrast to the behaviour of some "moderators" with inflated opinions of themselves, some of the members of this forum offered very intelligent contributions.

Japanese Atrocities
This important web-site contains very disturbing text and horrifying images of Japanese atrocities committed in China in 1937. Although historically accurate, and illustrated with images taken by the Japanese soldiers themselves, it is strongly recommended that children under the age of fifteen not be permitted to view this site.
Japanese Imperial Navy
Jon Parshall's excellent web-site covers the equipment and operational doctrines of the Imperial Japanese Navy in World War II. The author is widely recognised as an expert in this field and will produce a book on the Battle of Midway in 2005.
Naval Air War in the Pacific
This is a fascinating web-site for Pacific War history enthusiasts. Dave Hanson tells us that his goal is to try to show various aspects of the air war in the Pacific, specifically the US Navy and Marine air units in action. The illustrations include some excellent paintings by famous artists.

This is the web-site of the Royal Australian Air Force Airfield Construction Squadrons. They created the forward airfields that were vital to the aerial campaigns in the South-West Pacific. They operated under extremely adverse conditions. They hacked airfields out of dense tropical jungle. They endured tropical heat and heavy rains that could quickly turned the ground into calf-deep mud. They often laboured under enemy attack.

At his web-site, Dan takes viewers on a fascinating tour of duty in the Pacific War theatre between 1941 and 1945. Dan served aboard the famous USS carriers Lexington (CV-2), Saratoga (CV-3), Yorktown (CV-5) and Enterprise (CV-6), and finally, on the destroyer USS Morrison (DD-560). This web-site is profusely illustrated and highly recommended.
MILITARY HISTORY ARCHIVES
This superb archive is a major source of information and historic photographs relating to the United States Navy. The website is very user friendly and has the writer's strong recommendation. Coverage of the Pacific War is comprehensive, and new material is constantly being added to the collection. Student researchers should not miss the Frequently Asked Questions section which contains very useful material on battles such as Midway.

The archives of the Australian War Memorial are extensive and an important resource for those interested in Australia's military history. When last reviewed by the web-master in 2003, access to this web-site could not be described as "user friendly". Much has changed, and access to the collections has now been substantially improved.
