In order to improve any
chances of finding your ancestors the following
guidelines are suggested to be adopted during our efforts to find your
ancestors.
ITEM 1
- Supply ALL the information you have discovered yourself up to this point
PURPOSE
It will avoid reinventing the wheel, saving you and me time and/or money
ITEM 2
- Make a list of sources (other than family) which you have exhausted so far
PURPOSE
It will save revisiting these sources, saving you and me time and/or
money
ITEM 3
- Make a list of sources you are still trying/negotiating
with
PURPOSE
I will hold off using these sources until such time you are telling me what you
have gained from these sources.... if anything
ITEM 4
- Reply (positively or negatively) to any questions I may have within a
reasonable time, say 24 hours
PURPOSE
This is to maintain continuity/impetus with regard to not only myself, but in
particular for my contacts in The Netherlands who may 'disconnect' if it
takes too long to supply answers to assist them in any enquiries they may have
ITEM 5
- You will be informed beforehand of any costs I may have to
make on your behalf.
PURPOSE
Although my time is given freely, there are instances where my own
genealogical library and/or any contacts I am using in The Netherlands are
unable/inadequate to supply the required information free of charge because
of costs that need to be incurred
ITEM 6
- If you wish to cease the search at any time, please let me know as soon as
you have made the decision
PURPOSE
It will give me the opportunity to timely inform my contacts to cease their
efforts on my (and your) behalf.
PRELIMINARY SEARCH
A preliminary search can be undertaken for free
The purpose of such a search is to establish that a reasonable chance exists to successfully research the family and in which manner.
During this search I will avail myself of :

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I will supply you with a report giving an overview of:

|
|
|
|
|
If you wish to pursue/undertake a full search yourself, based on - and/or
making use of - the results of the preliminary search you are of course free to do so.
The preliminary results may have given you enough information to proceed on your own accord.
FACTS
It is possible that you have hesitations/misgivings about the validity and
honesty of
Internet dealings. It is a fact that the Internet hosts many 'less reliable
personalities'.
As the search for ancestors requires mutual trust by its participants, it is
important that this is established before any arrangements are
entered into.
I have spent the last 20 years researching Dutch ancestors as a hobby, most
of the time in The Netherlands. In my working life was an IT professional. I
have references who can vouch for my integrity if you wish to obtain such
reference before entering into any kind of agreement.
