EMIGRANTS
In the 19th century, many emigrants left The Netherlands looking to improve their chances for a better life. A list was kept by each province in The Netherlands. A name list (and other details) of those who left their hometown can be perused on this site. Specialist ancestral research is available for emigration of Dutch citizens to the US during 1830-1880.

Arrival of immigrants in New York around the middle of the 19th century.

Danish Genealogy
Researching your early ancestors in Denmark will inevitably lead you to the primary vital record source, namely the Church books. These can be found at the site of the Danish Sate Archive at www.arkivalieronline.dk . The census- and emigrant listings at ddd.dda.dk are also an excellent source. The latter site has an English section, but the State Archive is still mostly in Danish. Searching for the entries in the books can be harrowing unless you have a reasonable command of the Danish language. The handwriting can be a barrier to decipher what is written.

Danish Census Record of 1787
The church books were maintained at the parish of the village (Sogn) in which your ancestor was born. Crucial therefore is that you know the name of the birth place of your ancestor before attempting to search the church books. The parishes belong to a district (Herred) and the districts were united in a county (Amt). You will need to look at the Danish map to find the name of the county and/or district in which the ancestor was born as you will be asked for it on the search page of the archive.
Danish research assistance offered
It could be that 'navigating' through these books are too much of a challenge. In that case do not hesitate to ask me to assist you in your search. Costs, to recover expenses made on your behalf, depend heavily on how much information you already have, the type of information (birth/death/marriage) and the number of persons you are looking for. Once I have all the information you can muster I will give you a free estimate of the costs involved. Generally a 'no cure-no pay' applies. This will be confirmed after I have had a look at the available 'start'- information.
