The SHINJU MATSURI Festival of the Pearl started this month with Sammy the Dragon being woken up to lead all the activities of the festival. We attended the opening ceremony where some of the original pearl divers were brought back to Australia for the celebrations. Many had left over 30 years ago and were seen to be having a very emotional reunion with those pearlers that stayed in Australia.

The parade thru China Town include many floats with the local school children having a great time on most of the floats. The prices in Broome have skyrocketed the same as the rest of WA and the float below had a fun dig at the rental prices.

The sign reads " ALL I COULD AFFORD TO RENT IN BROOME" an outdoor dunny!

One of the many highlights of the festival was the Dragon Boat races. A lot of the crews were inexperienced with many collisions occurring when they couldn't quite steer a straight course to the finish line. These accidents helped to make it a fun event for all the spectators.

Sandy continues enjoying making jewellery in her workshop/annexe.

and the finished product, a CZ pear shaped diamond and silver ring!

The sunsets on Cable Beach always included a walk past by the Camels.

How could you not be impressed, red sunset, 30 degrees, warm water!
Our last month in Broome for this year but we have booked in again for next year. With only 5 caravan parks in Broome and 2 shutting down soon, spaces will be as scarce as hens teeth in the coming years.
Back to cold Perth next month, hopefully not too cold, so stay safe.
Peter and Sandy.
