THE ANATOMY OF IGNORANCE
It is possible to envisage a theory as to the way ignorance afflicts man using a littleof what is known of metaphysical principles. The difficulty encountered when exposed to new ideas may be due to significant changes which have taken place in the subtle composition of the human unit underlying the physical. It is well known that older people " get rather set in their ways", and become very conservative and reluctant to change their habits, particularly their views of the world. It involves a fossilisation of the auric envelope so that the outer shell is impervious to new ideas penetrating and entering the mind from The World of Ideas (which is The Noumenal World) containing all possible ideas, so that when new information becomes encountered in the ordinary course of things, through reading or more personal contact, the result is total rejection if it is foreign and incompatible or just uncomfortable and heretical, threatening cherished beliefs, so that the result is rejection and ridicule and sometimes downright hostility. The notion that our minds are in three tiers of development, Subconscious, Conscious and the Higher Conscious has been dealt with in some detail. It should be remembered that the pathway of ideas from the higher to the conscious is via the subconscious, and as most of us are not on too great familiarity with our subconscious it is not inconceivable that some cut themselves off completely. In Jungian terms this can give rise to an inflated ego and a hubris of such proportion that all feeling of morality and compassion is submerged, as in Hitler's version of The Superman derived and misinterpreted from the philosophy of Nietsze .
"Peace falls like the gentle rain from heaven "to quote a poetic expression of the Master and we are urged to offer no resistance to this flow. If the auric envelope is closed by having deveoped a hard exterior there will be no penetration from above, sealed off in such a way that all reception from more mundane sources is likewise rejected. And so,one should be aware and try to guard against this and preserve that sense of wonder which we had as children, so that The New, however outrageous needs to mulled over and favoured by Intuitive Discrimination. In the more serious cases of "ossification" of the mental sphere, there occurs a failure in maintaining that thread connecting the higher and the lower aspects of the human complex, and to all intents and purposes leaves the individual so afflicted cut off from the subconscious and the higher, producing what amounts to a mere shell of a man functioning in a purely robotic manner.
