My story is probably unusual. I left Christianity because I couldn't get its doctrines to line up with the bible.
Being raised in the south, I thought Christianity was the only place to find out about God.
Soon after becoming a Christian, I learned that different Christians have different interpretations/understandings of the bible. I determined that the only way I could know for sure what the bible says is to study it from myself. Not long into that study, I began to see huge discrepancies between Christian teaching and what I was seeing from the scripture. I was very concerned. I took my concerns to church leadership. I was basically told not to worry about my understanding of scripture, for I was not educated in theology, just do what the church told me and everything would be okay. I changed churches. Same thing. I changed again, and then again, and again. I eventually tried every mainstream denomination, along with many self proclaimed churches in that area of the U.S., all with the same exact result.
My belief in God didn't waver. For my belief in God was/is not based on Christianity, nor the bible. My belief in God is based on personal experience, not the church or the bible. I was more determined than ever to understand the bible. I spent about 18 months in full time study of the bible.
My belief in God, AND the bible, is stronger than ever but, Christianity is just another religion.
