Why Joined

Full story of why I joined is in my chapter of the book, Leaving the Fold: Testimonies of Former Fundamenalists, Prometheus Books, 1995, available at Amazon.com. Does anyone really know all the factors involved when they make a decision to do one thing rather than another? Even one's memories of "why" you did this or that often change over time, your brain readjusting and reassessing reasons, and explaining things differently the more you learn about life and yourself. Though there have been statistical studies carried out over the past hundred years in America that agree that the average age of conversion to evangelical Christianity in America is 16, and that hasn't changed in over a hundred years. Go figure.

Why Left

Bible errors, contradictions, exaggerrations, pious lies, poor science, failed prophecies, even bad grammar. The realization that Christians were not superior to other people, did not really know more about what was going on, but that they had their own little reality tunnel, like most other groups. The demagogic practices of Christian "leaders" and the naivette of many of their followers, throughout history until the present day. Finally, the realization that even the best Christian apologetics left something to be desired in the way of truly rational thinking.
