My parents sent me and my brothers to Sunday school, not because of any underlying religous motivation, but (I think) because they wanted some time alone on the weekend. I remember enjoying the walk home the best - and my Bible. I loved my Bible, because it was a big, heavy book, and there were wild flowers on the way home - my Bible was perfect for pressing the flowers between the pages.
Later, when I was about 14 or 15, I wondered a bit more about religion, and in particular Christianity. I decided I should investigate it further before completely dismissing it, so I actually read the Bible. It's not an easy read. I was horrified that people would use such a book for the basis of their lives, and found it very hard to reconcile what was in the book with what Christians professed to believe. I confess that I still have that problem.
I think that, ironically, the best cure for Christianity is to read the Bible with an open mind.
