In 1991, we left Jews for Jesus staff and we moved back to
Colorado Springs and I worked for Focus on the Family. It was
easy for me to get a job there, since by now, I was really good
at Christian lingo. I needed a job, and jobs in Colorado Springs
were not plentiful at the time. I hated working there: I hated
the daily broadcasts, especially the way the broadcasts were
used to promote the Religious Right's political agenda; I hated
the way women were expected to fit into a mold, and I hated
how everyone who worked there seemed to be depressed all the
time. In the capital of the Religious Right, I decided that
I'd had enough! The walk away was not instant, but slow, and
as the years have passed I've just pretended that my religious
past never existed.
