I didn't lose my faith. With apologies to Kevin Spacy, it's not like, whoops, where'd it go? Where's my faith? My faith changed from believing that the "male" deity created life to a view more of nature as spiritual, of god as both masculine and feminine (thus "goddess"), and of life as liveable--that just passing through stuff was always crap.

What really got me out of Christianity, though, was the contradictory message. Jesus said, "Worship my father; he comes before me." What do Christians do? Turn around and worship Jesus! Jesus included women and sinners. What do Christians do? Turn around and condemn sinners and treat women like second-class citizens!

I've been in Catholic schools since kindergarten--my folks are Irish-Catholic, what do you expect?. The last straw for me was when my 8th grade teacher told my buddy Andrew, who loved his dog Hallie immensely, that once Hallie died, she was gone forever because God doesn't let animals into heaven. The teacher was a nun. What the hell kind of message is that to tell kids? "Your pet isn't as important to God as it is to you." Monkey crap, folks. Just like a lot of Christian belief. The only good thing they preach (most times hypocritically) is love--but love that doesn't come before power isn't really love at all.

Why I joined Baptized a Catholic, so not really by choice
Age I Left 15
Why I left I wasn't really understanding why Jesus, who never said he was the Son of God any more or less than everyone else on earth is a child of God. I did a little reading in scripture and realized the Bible is a damned entertaining book, full of more sex, booze, and violence than all of Shakespeare's works combined, but God is kind of a whiny, bitchy brat in the Jewish scriptures and is morphed into an angry bastard by Paul in the Christian ones.
What I was Catholic Church, Catholic Schools -- what else do you need to turn you off to that faith?
What I am now Wiccan
Recommended reading witchvox.com is a great resource for anyone interested in Wicca. Of course, I recommend reading the Bible, because it might be a load of crap theologically speaking, but the Book of Tobit is awesome and the Gospel of John (taken out of its spiritual sense) is some pretty good writing. Oh, and the Song of Songs (Song of Solomon) makes for some great erotic poetry. Yeah! That's right! Erotic poetry! Take that, Christian Right!
