Was raised in the legalistic Church of Christ. This church calls itself non-denominational and faults Christians who belong to demoninations. Grew up believing that members of the Church of Christ were just about the only Christians going to heaven. Believed that anyone who actually studied the Bible and was sincere would naturally adopt the Church of Christ as truth.
In college, began learning about other churches and religions and found out they were not what I was taught about them. There are rational, sane, sincere people in all churches and religions. Became friends with a number of Muslim students who began sharing their faith.
After sincere study of Biblical history and criticism, realized that there is no way that this book is the unaltered Word of God. Studied the Quran and was amazed that it remained the same since its revelation. After a lengthy study of Islam, realized I believe in its teachings, even though I didn't want to and tried not to. Eventually, I had to submit to what I believed was true. I embraced Islam nearly 17 years ago -- best decision I ever made.
