christianity oppressive to women & others (i.e. GLBT-Q)

My story is so similar to others on this website, i don't feel i need to repeat it.

Why I joined	I was told that christianity helped people
Age I Left	19
Why I left	because a whole lot of christians are assholes (i.e. homophobes, misogynists)
What I was	Baptist
What I am now	Witch
Recommended reading	Anything by John Shelby Spong (especially Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus, Why Christianity Must Change or Die: A Bishop Speaks to Believers In Exile, Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism : A Bishop Rethinks the Meaning of Scripture, Living in Sin? : A Bishop Rethinks Human Sexuality). I read him as a christian, and still read him. He is (like my best friend), a non-oppressive christian. furthermore, he is critical. if christianity were like that, i probably would not have left.
