A Nashville, Tennessee court has ruled that ownership of some 150 Hank
Williams recordings-including some 40 songs never commercially released--
belong to Hank Williams Jr. and Jett Williams. The unreleased recordings
were included in "Mother's Best Flour Show," which were recorded in
connection with the radio show of the same name that aired on WSM Radio in
the 1950's.

The album include 21 songs from Kelli Lidell

The longest running number one country songs are Hank Snow's "I'm Movin' On," Eddy Arnold's "I'll Hold You Ion My Heart," and
Webb Pierce's "In The Jailhouse Now," share that honour with each of the
three sticking in the number one spot for 21 weeks.

story."  "Jolene" was a 1973 hit for Dolly.

Music icon CHARLIE DANIELS continues to give
America a strong look at a true American Patriot. With the recent releases
of the Charlie Daniels Band album titled "Freedom and Justice for All,"
released by Blue Hat/Audium/Koch Records, on July 22nd and Charlie Daniels
new book "Ain't No Rag: Freedom, Family, and the Flag", published by Regnery
Publishing, which hit book shelves around the nation on July 21st, Charlie
Daniels is continuing to ride the media wave.

Charlie Daniels was in  Washington, DC on Monday (August 4th) to make
appearances on Radio America's "BQ w/ Blanquita Cullum and CNN's Crossfire
w/ Bob Novak and Paul Begala. Then Tuesday, Charlie will hit the airwaves of
XM Satellite Radio Networks and MSNBC's Live w/ Lester Hold.

Never one to be shy about his patriotism, southern country/rocker CHARLIE
DANIELS is just out with a new batch of musical ammo and a new book-both
guaranteed to keep the anti-war crowd at bay!

America has a healthy dose of national pride and self respect to take
advantage of thanks to Charlie Daniels. The newest "It seems to me that
there are some people in this country who are ashamed that America is the
last superpower on earth.America is the big kid on the block.and I for one
am proud of it," said Daniels from the pages of his new book From the
diverse group of supporters who've landed on the book's dust-jacket, Charlie
Daniels has gathered some major support at the top-including Fox TV's Sean
Hannity, fellow country music superstars Hank Williams Jr. and Toby Keith,
Lt. Col. Oliver North, and even the Rev. Franklin Graham.

Like the book, the album is punctuated by Charlie's patented down home
vernacular, set to the tune of the CDB, which is flag waving at its most
sincere. Included in the fourteen track set are a slew of Charlie's
patriotic views including "My Beautiful America," "In America," "America I
Believe In You," " American Farmer," "Last Fallen Hero," "Let Freedom Ring,"
"Star Spangled Banner," the title track "Freedom and Justice for All," and
the inspiration for his new book title, "This Ain't No Rag, It's A Flag."

No one knows any more first hand than Daniels about the true American spirit
of which he sings and writes. For the past four decades he has traveled the
length and breath of this country playing country, rock, gospel, blues and
the patented blend of southern rock/country he himself helped create. He has
performed for the grand and the humble-he has been honored by two U.S.
Presidents and has passionately played his music and shouted his support to
U.S. troops in audiences they've populated in droves all over the world. In
his book, Charlie recounts meeting and being mentored by influences as
diverse as Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and the Reverend Billy Graham.

On the new album "Freedom and Justice for All," Charlie is true to his
musical roots-as well as his undying belief in America. "I believe fervently
in the American Dream and I myself am a prime example of its validity
today," he writes in his book. "The American Dream lives. If a nominally
talented, chubby, nearsighted kid from North Carolina can make it, you can
too!"

A BLUE CHIP SONG OF THE WEEK:   "I'm Not Over You" by Rhonda Vincent.
Written by Carl Jackson/Melba Montgomery.   Produced by Rhonda Vincent.
Label:   Rounder.    CDX:  291.   Album:   "The Storm Still Rages".
Given her great success and devotion to the bluegrass genre, and her one
compromised and unhappy attempt at what we laughingly call mainstream country
today, I suspect Rhonda Vincent wants little to do with the starmaking
machinery behind the popular song.   But if I was a big-time music row
executive, I'd jump all over the chance to sign her to a recording contract.
Then I'd say "Just bring me the master", then give her the promotional
support and get out of her way.
Real country doesn't get any better than Rhonda Vincent.
Asleep At The Wheel
1987: Asleep At The Wheel had their 10th chart record.  Their Epic Records single,
"House Of Blue Lights," made the charts May 30th, 1987 and peaked at # 17.
It was charted for 18 weeks.
Skip a Rope
from Country Music Classics
Henson Cargill's 1968 number one, "Skip A Rope," almost didn't get
recorded!
At the time, Cargill was an established act on the Las Vegas circuit, but
was trying to get into the Nashville recording scene and having no luck.
His third try at Nashville proved to be the charm and he managed to talk to
record producer Don Law.  Although Law did not think that Cargill's songs
were marketable, he did think the young man from Oklahoma had talent and
scheduled a recording session for Henson.
And the night before his first recording session, Henson accidentally
bumped into another ex-Oklahoman-Tom Hartman. Tom was a song-plugger for
Tree Music and had already pitched a song titled "Skip A Rope" to everyone
in Nashville but nobody wanted to take a chance on a song that blamed
parents for problems like racism and dishonesty.
But Henson liked "Skip A Rope" and the next day persuaded Law to let him
record the song.  Most Nashville record labels turned the record down
because it stepped on too many toes.
And they didn't think the record would sell!
Monument Records decided to take a chance and signed Cargill to a recording contract.
"Skip A Rope" entered the country music charts December 9th, 1967 and sold
over 500,000 copies within 90 days.
It was country music's number one song the week of February 3rd, 1968 and
stuck there for 5 weeks.
It was Henson Cargill's first chart record and his only number one. It was
on the country music charts for 19 weeks and also scored a # 25 pop music hit.

Vince Gill
Gill’s first chart single was “Victim Of Life’s Circumstances,” which peaked
at # 40 in 1984.  He and wife  Amy Grant are recording television public
service announcements for the Oklahoma Child Abuse and Neglect campaign.

Nashville's Music Row
Despite music industry efforts to reach an ever younger audience, the
RIAA says country music buyers are getting older.   Buyers over 45 bought
just 12.2 % of country music albums in 1992; by 2001, the number had nearly
doubled to 23.7 %.   The 40-44 age group rose from 7.4 % to 10.3 % in the

Fredheads get ready!
Fredheads get ready!  Here's Fred's 11th and most 'country' sounding recording - "Falling Stars and Broken Hearts".
Recorded with his touring band it captures the distinctive Fred Eaglesmith sound - high energy rhythms, crazy musicians, impassioned vocals and crying steel guitar. But it's the songs that are captivating - telling tales of the characters that inhabit the world of Fred Eaglesmith - tough guys, soft guys, pretty girls and machinery.
As a bonus the CD is enhanced with pics and lyrics.

NEW WEST RECORDS SIGNS THE FLATLANDERS

NEW ALBUM FEATURING JOE ELY, JIMMIE DALE GILMORE AND BUTCH HANCOCK DUE MAY 20

LOS ANGELES, CA - Cameron Strang, president of New West Records, has
announced the signing of The Flatlanders, featuring Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale
Gilmore and Butch Hancock, to a recording contract. The band's
as-yet-untitled label debut album is scheduled for release May 21
The trio began in Lubbock, Texas in the early 1970s, recording one album of songs in 1972 that was originally released only on eight-track tape. Ten
years later the album was released on vinyl and cassette in England, where itbecame a cult hit. In 1990, Rounder Records released the album, More a Legend
Than a Band, for the first time on CD.  During the intervening years since the first album came out, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock established solo careers of their own, but often collaborated on each other's albums as songwriters and musicians. After
More a Legend Than a Band was released in the States, the three friends came ogether as The Flatlanders for two special recordings, contributing a track
on The Horse Whisperer soundtrack in 1998, (which marked the first time all
three had written and performed together on disc) and a song for the 2001
Grammy-nominated album, Poet: A Tribute to Townes Van Zant.
Because of the response to these performances, as well as a general clamor
from fans to see The Flatlanders back on the road, the group began touring
again, starting in 2000. Since then, several tours of the U.S. have resulted
in sell-out shows, an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and energized talk of a new Flatlanders album.
The New West Records debut was recorded primarily at Joe Ely's Spur Studio inAustin, with one track recorded at Pedernales Studio. Ely, Gilmore an Hancock co-wrote all of the songs with the exception of "She's Gone Away,"
written by Utah Phillips. All the main principals of the first album are back on the new CD, including Steve Wesson on saw and Tony Pearson on
mandolin/vocals. Additional players include guitarist Rob Gjersoe, bassist  Gary Herman and drummer Rafael O'Malley Gayol (all in the touring band), plus
Lloyd Maines on steel, Mitch Watkins on guitar and Chris Searls on drums. "We couldn't be prouder than to have The Flatlanders on New West Records and
we're very excited about the new album," said Cameron Strang in making the announcement. "In my book, they are three of the greatest Texas songwriters -
all in one band."New West, whose roster also includes Delbert McClinton and Shaver, are distributed in Australia by Shock Records.
Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash has recorded a duet with rocker Dave Matthews, "For You".  The song will probably appear on the soundtrack for the new Mel Gibson movie, "We Were Soldiers".

"Almeria Club"

by Hank Williams, Jr.
Produced by Chuck Howard/Hank Williams, Jr.     Label: Curb.

Our rowdy friend is back, growling and groaning in his best fashion.   Still fiercely independent with his music, still in your face, still showing flashes of brilliance, still throughly masculine and pumpin' testosterone.   Real men have country needs, too, you know.
Best cuts:   "America Will Survive",  "Last Pork Chop",  "X-Treme Country",  "Big Top Women",  "The Cheatin' Hotel" (all written by Hank Williams, Jr. except "Last Pork Chop" by Thunderhead Hawkins).

Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle and others pay tribute to the Late, Great Townes Van Zandt.

When Steve Earle declared, "Townes Van Zandt is the best damn songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say it!," the rogue singer-songwriter was voicing a full-tilt preference shared by many. Now three years from the passing of one of Texas' truest voices, a painstakingly completed new tribute album entitled ‘Poet: A Tribute To Townes Van Zandt’ lovingly revives many of Van Zandt's most ardent compositions delivered by the people who knew and loved him best.

The 15 track album features brand new recordings from a stunning line up artists: Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Cowboy Junkies, Robert Earl Keen, Nanci Griffith, Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson, Delbert McClinton, newcomer Pat Haney, Shaver, the Flatlanders (featuring Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock) and John T. Van Zandt.

The album is released on Pedernales/FreeFalls through Shock on October 22.

The same date sees the release of a previously unheard TOWNES VAN ZANDT, STEVE EARLE and GUY CLARK live album, called ‘TOGETHER at the BLUEBIRD CAFÉ’, on American Originals through Shock.
