Tongue piercings

A lot of teens have written to us about our article on body piercing — some for, some against. So we are letting our readers have their say. Tell us what you think about body piercing. Do you think it's good, bad, or just plain ugly? We can't publish all comments, but we will publish as many short comments as we can. (See the rules and email address at the bottom of this page.) We are particularly interested in comments from Christian teens.

“They're no good when you go thru the metal detector at the airport. Man, i almost missed my plane.” — Kazz

“I think some of them are fine. But nipples and tongues with things in them are a big turn-off for me.” — Nicholas

“Peircings is the cool-est.” — Tenholz

“I think they're starting to look old-fashioned now. One set of earrings in your ears still looks OK, but barbells in eyebrows, nose studs and stuff like that makes kids look like they haven't moved out of the 1990s.” — Sarah

“Piercing shops these days have to comply with strict health regulations. It's almost impossible to get dirty piercings that will cause health problems if you go to a reputable shop. You should add that to your site.” — Arno [Editor's note: We have. We've put your comments on this page.]

“I read your article and I have to say I am somewhat offended, as a Christian with a piercing (nose). I think that if a teenager is going to get a piercing it should definitely be when they are out of their parents’ house. But I do disagree with a piercing making someone look ugly for one, and also with the fact that you say it shouldn’t be done because as a Christian we should bring attention to Christ not ourselves.” — Amber

“your article is so biased against piercing that it stinks. i know your not gonna publish this email but im letting you now my view point anyways.” — Ruby Joy

“What looks really stupid is old people getting pierced. When I heard a girl say her father had his nipples pierced I just thought, 'This guy is having a mid-life crisis. His daughter needs to straighten him out'.” — Jaq

“your artical is badky biassed .. theres not dangers like u say.. i got lotsa gangsta frends.” — rapR

“A lot of the non-Christian kids at my school only get piercings because their friends have them. I'm not in one of those groups, luckily, so I can avoid them and no one cares.” — Jessica

“Getting 3 piercings was the best thing I've ever did. The Dr. said my infections won't last forever ... you can get infections from anything you know, not just piercings.” — Hipchick

“U little creeps ... waht right have you got to bust on body piercers!” — eZm [Editor's note: The same right you have to bust on us.]

“Eveyrone in my family has got piercings — even the fur-kid is about to get pierced.” — dd [Editor's note: Make sure you don't put jewelry in the cat's nose or tongue, dd, because it may starve to death trying to smell and eat its food.]

“Piercings are not always ugly. The pictures of piercings on the website were probably searched for. You would hardly every see a person that looked like that out on the street.” — Bev

“I wanted my piercings because i personly like them on me. When i look in the mirror i like to see them on me, think of the piercings as a nice necklace or cool ring (any kinds of jewelry). I dont need piercings to be different from everyone, i already am (just as you are) because of the Lord Chirst Jesus.” — Dan

“Advice to extremes: dont go out in storms .... it turns you into a lightning rod.” — Frizzled Ned

“last time i checked you were going on about what CHRISTIANS should and should'nt do blah blah blah yet, second paragraph of your article you say "but apart from making you look ugly", aside from that being a very biased comment, that was not a very "christian-like" thing to say. In many cultures body- piercing is a form of beauty, so maybe you should take that comment, make it seem less like a statement, and instead of posting it on a website, put it in this stupid comment page because thats exactly what it is, a biased view.” — Greg [Editor's note: We are allowed to be biased on our website because we put it up to present our views. Many sites promote piercings and don't allow comments of the opposite view like we allow on this page.]

“I don't see how piercing are bad. I'm a Christian and I have piercing. I don't go around showing them off so I see nothing wrong with them.” — Sarah

“Yech. People with alot of piercings make my skin crawl. I can't think of anything that makes kids look more abnormal.” — Bret

“I don't believe for a minute that body piercings or tatoo's are the least bit ugly. There a self expression of what god made you. They give you a away to place art on your body. I am 14 years old and in my first year of high school and had my tounge pierced on my 14th birthday. I am a catholic.” — Jamie

“As a Christian I ask myself "what would Jesus do?" The only piercings He got were forced on Him to torture Him on the cross. And when the Bible tells me that my body is a temple of the living God I feel even less inclined to desecrate it. I'm happy with the way God made me.” — Shari

“I think that if you're good-looking you don't need them, and if you're not then you're not going to look any better with them.” — Jaq

“I read your article on body piercing and found it really biased and poorly done. There was obviously not much research done on the subject, giving the teens who read it only half of the story. You didn't include that piercers use completely sterile needles that are surgical steel, and the only reason someone would get an infection is if they don't take care of it properly.” — Danielle [Editor's note: We have now, because we've added your comment to this page.]

“Well, you can apply what you said about piercings to any type of jewellery. A ring or bracelet draws attention to the body. You can add clothes to the list because they also draw attention to the body.” — Debbie

“I think heavily pierced people are starting to look like they're from another time zone. Girls can still get away with them, but guys? They're fooling themselves.” — Brianna

“If I make getting piercings an idol in my life then, yes it is wrong. If I am a teenager trying to hide my piercing from my mom or dad, yes it is wrong. If I am piercing my body because I want to fit it, or I need the pain to drown other emotional pains, yes it is wrong. It is all about the heart motive.” — Amber

“Thank you for allowing comments giving opinions you don't agree with about piercings. There are not many sites doing that. Even if your article is not the best one on piercings I congratulate you for allowing people to tell you that and then putting the comments on your site for the world to read.” — Darren

“on the coment of people getting infections from jewelry this is a total falesy aswell infections are caused due to inproper care of a piercing just as a wound may become infected if not cared for correctly, so again another falesy wich you have obviously not researched.” — robert

“There's no law against looking ugly if you want to. What are you guys on about.” — Heavenly Cate

“I am a devout Christian, and I know that if I have a million piercings in my body, I'm still going to Heaven. The only way to go to Heaven is to be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ: avoiding body piercings has NOTHING to do with it.” — CeeJ Girl [Editor's note: You are absolutely right. We totally agree with you.]

“I think lotsa piercings are for very unromantic people. My boyfriend got a nosering, septum studs, lip and tongue piercings. It's like kissing a barbed-wire fence.” — K080 Oshkosh

“Whether tatoos or piercings are ugly depends on the context. They look okay on street kids and prisoners, but would look downright ugly in the high-class office I work in.” — Mimosa

“Thank you for all that you do on your website and for protratying others comments. I will continue to pray for your ministry.” — Kelly

“I am fifteen, I currently have both nostrils, both ear lobes, my right nipple and my top and bottom navel pierced. I beleive there is a God and that he loves me, and I know he loves me too, no matter how many holes I get poked into my skin.” — Abigail

“Thiere is nothing wrong with body peircing. Just make sure you get it done someplace that is safe and that sterilizes everything.” — Adam

“Just about the ugliest thing in the world is someone with a heap of piercings and lots of tattoos. Yukkk!!! Many of them look like circus freaks. How can you deface and deform yourself and still think you look all right?” — Monique

“… saying they make you ugly. If this is so then every girl I know is ugly.” — Garett

“All the diseases you talk about in the article mainly happen when you are pierced with a dirty needle or the place you go to get something pierced is not sterile. A person should know what they are allergic to before they get something pierced.” — Lisa

“I don't think they're ugly, either. Now there are ones that I do not understand at all, like genital piercings and nipple piercings. But having a nose piercing or eyebrow piercing doesn't make you any less of a Christian.” — Debbie

“Great judgmental attitude! And you wonder why so many ppl are put off by christianity's rules and regulations! It's so eye opening! I didn't realise that wearing earrings was going to take the focus of God. How will my church be able to concentrate on the sermon this sunday after I've had my belly button peierced?!?! Please grow up!” — lisa [Editor's note: It's got nothing to do with Christianity's “rules and regulations”. It's the writer of that article's opinion. We thought the writer made that clear by saying “the Bible doesn't forbid piercings”. And the article makes no implication that people in church can't concentrate if you have your belly-button pierced.]

“piercings are the koolest. i no a 12 year old cristian with her nose & belly button pierced, she is the nicest person i no. i want 2 get my nose & eybrow pierced, it would look killer” — greendayloverlexi

“I'm a christian and i think that piercings are a way to express your self you don't have to get it because it means some thing but because your doing it for fun"” — Nataliasmith

“peecrings are allrigt if you scroot yuorslef first but no 1 iss telling you too” — nogg [Editor's note: Sorry readers. We have no idea what this means, but we will put it up for a while anyway. Maybe some of you can work out what it means.]

“The above commenter is saying he had his fingers pierced and now can't type properly.” — Rikki Atcher Service

“I don't get piercings so people will look at me, I get them because I think they are beautiful. All I can say is respect your parents and only get a piercing/tattoo/body modification if you are SURE you want it and you know you can take proper care of. BE SAFE AND SMART KIDS! I have a strange feeling this won't get posted on your sight, I hate to say it, but your article was terribly biased.” — Abigail

“I'm 17 and have a few piercings to date: numerous ear piercings, top and bottom of my navel, and a madonna spot. I've always had the area numbed before having the actual piercing, so i can say - IN ALL HONESTY - that my piercings did not hurt!!! I guess i got my madonna spot piercing because ... A. i think it looks quite funky and up-to-date and B. the intimidation and shock factor.” — Jemma

“My boyfriend (who has a labret piercing) just recently got both nipples pierced (at the same time) ... and he was in agony!! I am considering having a nipple piercing however, perhaps with the piercings i have already ... i have mutilated myself enough already???” — Jemma B xxx

“I think that it is ok to get your ears pierced. But the rest of piercings like tounge belly button ect. are wrong.I heard a story about a girl who got her tounge pierced and part of her tounge fell out.So I am afraid to get more then my ears pierced.” — Becky

“my friends a nd i went prospecting with a geiger counter . We kept thinking we had strck it rich till we realized the device was pickig up our friend jeremy's piercing jewellry.” — Lazlo

“i dont c n e thing wrong with body piercings. i think that al they r is a fashion accesories. Its not lyk they r goin 2 b there foreva coz wen they go out of fashion or u decide ur sik of it u can just remove it.” — Kate

“Hey! Just thought i'd write a quick comment on body piercings. I am a 16 year old christian girl and i personally don't think there is much wrong with piercings. I got my belly button done recently and it hasn't given me any problems, but i did research a little about it. I think it is alright to get piercings as long as you don't get to obsessed and start putting them all over your face. The good thing about piercings is that you can always take them out. Well theres my say. Thanks! :-)” — Patricia

“I think as Christians people need to grow up and accept all people (tattoos, piercings, children before marriage) into the church and your site is not teaching that, especially older people.” — Jess

“i'm a 13yo chick. i'm in yr 9 at a Catholic school. i love body pericing and the day i leave school i'm getting my tongue, belly and top of my ears done. there so cool ” — Antony

“Im a christian teenager and i have many piercings. i dont think they are bad and saying they make people look ugly is a harsh opinion. i love god and i love and respect myself and my choice to have piercings doesnt make me grow apart from god. i respect yalls opinions although they do seem to be rather harsh.” — Waughclan

“That Old Testament law you quoted about tattoos doesn't apply to Christians. Christians can get tattoos if they want to.” — jimbo10619 [Editor's note: Yes, we know. That's what our tattoo article says. But your comment is about tattoos and this page is about piercings.]

“i am a pro body piercer. i am also a hard-core follower of christ.i personally belive that as long as piercings are not done as an act of rebellion against a person or a group , and are not done in a dangerous or unsafe manner that there is no spiritual risk.” — Georgia

“I am a Christian teen girl with my belly button pierced. Except for the dangers of getting bad diseases, I disagree with your view on body piercings. I have a jewelry charm that is a cross that I can put on any piece of jewelry I wear and I wear it with EVERY belly button ring. I don't believe that it draws attention to my body and away from the Lord, because I do not wear clothing that reveals my piercing.” — Sarah Jean

“Peircings is so ol' fashioned man .. heck, they look as bad as ol' bowls hats.” — Chimna

“Int he piercing article your trying to say piercing is not cool, and your setting all these standards for teens about what is cool and what isnt. Your site is full of pressure! If this truly was a christian site, there wouldn't be such biased, judgmental opinions. If I came to a church, would people tell me I'm ugly because my nose is pierced?” — Liz [Editor's note: Regarding your final question, the answer is probably No, although Christians have different personalities like the rest of the population. You would probably get reactions in church as varied as you would get from any random group of non-Christians.]

“Serious infections are of great concern with piercings. Hepatitis "C" is a serious life threatening blood infection that is spread from improper sterilization of needles. It surfaces years later, not immediately. At least make sure you go to a reputable place.” — Tgoell

“them r fine doods” — heydood

“I am an employment officer at my company, and I can tell you we are now reluctant to hire heavily pierced and heavily tattooed individuals. Apart from the fact that many of those we hired in the past were either junkies, or wouldn't work in a team, or had a terrible chip on their shoulder, we have found that lots of piercings and tattoos seem to be a badge of not wanting to conform. That may be good for self-employed artists, but if they make it difficult and costly for us to train them and work with them in the company we simply cannt keep them.” — Donn

“I just wanted to say that I thank God that he made everyone different otherwise it would be a boring world also love for our lord isn't affected by holes in your body or ink it the love you feel is in you heart. I notice that the older generation has most of the issues with piercings/tatoo because it wasn't something that was popular in their youth. Keep an eye out for all the tats that have religious meanings These individuals believe and love God. Thanks for listening.” — Eve

“I'm Christian, and I have grown up in a very, very religious family but I still have some piercings in my ear and about to get one in my brow. I believe that it doesn't matter what you look like, and you'll are complaining about piercings, but what about make- up? … Maybe you should out up about make-up, teens wearing skirts that show your rear end, very low cut shirts.” — yoshi

“as a body piercer i was extremely offended that your site says piercings are ugly, you know what makes a person ugly is there personality when they cant accept someone for who they are. i have 17 piercings and i am extremely proud of them i get them done because i want them and i know i look good with them in. why don't you people get lives and stop dissing people for the way they look everyone is different piercings are only one part of a person. think about what your saying next time and dont diss people.” — Slightly disturbed girl

“The first piercing I got was my Labret when I was 13, then 7 months later I got my Eyebrow pierced and then my Tongue when I was 14 and my left lip when I was 15. I don’t think that body piercings make a person ugly, it all depends on how that person looks in the first place and also they way they act..” — Chris

“i believe piercings are good. im only 16 and i have eyebrow ring, tongue, belly, nose. 3 earrings in each ear and one tattoo. they are very addictive once u start its like u cant stop” — Patricia

“I can understand that aspects of body modifications can be potentially hazardous and in doing so, we are not honoring God's creations. ( "..do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" from Corinthians) But we put ourselves at risk doing just about everything; driving a car, smoking etc etc. How is piercing/tattooing your body any different? If it really was that important, that God doesn't trust us to put Him first in our lives, wouldn't He have made it a commandment? God Bless.” — Savannah

“i lost a job and a boyfirend and lot of self repspect after i got my piercings. i dont think its worth going throw what i did just becuz u self immolate yourself into thinking u look good with peircings." — Cheynne

“hey! i love this page.. i've just spent 10 minutes reading everyhting on it. wow! i didn't realize there was such controversy over having peircings. i always thought they were stupid, but didnt know that feelings ran so strong for and against.. thanks for this page ....its great!!!” — minky

“Hey, I don't know if your guys are still around, but here' my 2 cents. I am a Christian. I have 1 lip ring, and one ear ring. I have used my body peircings as a witnissing tool. I know a friend who has done the same. What I don't appreciate though, is how I have sometimes been outcast from church members because of it.” — Ryan

“I’m not Christian, I have a couple of friends who are and they don’t have a problem with me and their parents don’t mind. I have been to church before with my piercings as well and I didn’t get shamed out…. If you want a piercing it should be your choice, it’s your body and you can do what you like with it, and if you’re not 18 you do it with parental permission, my mother doesn’t mind about my piercings.” — Chris

“As a 14 year old Christian teenager, I can honestly say I don't see anything wrong with body piercings. they are a self expression, just like the clothes we wear. I don't think ive ever heard an adult say "teenage girls shouldn't wear low cut pants because their not adults," if you decide you don't want the piercing when you get older, you cant let it grow up.” — Lynn

“... i LUV ipods... i NOLUV broccoli (smell make me sic) ...i LUV Dove dark chocolate,,, i NOLUV piercings (make me look away ) ... i LUV Zoegirl music... i NOLUV tatoos(make me think of grafiti tag on fence) ... i LUV my friend Steph , 'n my mother 'n dad for putting up with a wierd kid like me ...” — lexi bling-bling

“Are you gong to let this page go on forever and just keep adding comments till the cows come home/” — Dud [Editor's response: No, Dud, we will split it soon. But we know that as soon as we split it most visitors will read only the first page, so we will leave it as long as practical until we split it.]

“First off, god will not hate you because you have a piercing on your body. If you would take the time to think logically, you wouldn't be so stupid. I for one am a christian but i have many problems with the people in christianity. You mock everything and say blah blah its in the bible. What you dont' realize is that god isn't going to condem you to hell for getting a piercing.” — Kirby [Editor's response: Thank you for your comments Kirby. Yes, we do realize that God isn't going to condemn people to Hell for getting a piercing. In fact, we say in our article that the Bible doesn't forbid piercings. You must have skipped that part.]

“this is in response to your body piercings article. first, i am a Christian. second, i have pierced ears and my nose is pierced. am i ugly? i dont think so. i think its an acceptable form of self- expression and if a person wants it done, Christian or not, then they should consider it.” — Kallie

“i had sent a reply to this site yesterday without reading the article or anything. now that i have read it, i feel really disrespected. i never realized how "ugly" i am for having 4 piercings. im sorry for being an ugly person. i dont mean to "distract" people from christ. seriously...im a 14 year old telling you to -Get a Life-. i may be "ugly" but i still have my dignity and beliefs, and not even you guys with your stupid opinions can take that away.” — HaNNaH S.

“Peircings is so ol' fashioned man .. heck, they look as bad as ol' bowls hats.” — Chimna

“How can u say that peircings are bad, i love getting peircings i think it is a form of expresion that should b left to the person to decide when u people r just baging I think u should do an artical on good peircings, did u know that getting a specific nerv peirced can help back and hip problems ( u wont post this but u should really read it over)” — Maccattack

“Most of th e comments on your feedback page seem to be from 14-year-oldz who are offended that someone thinkz their ugly becuz they have peircings. No, their not ugly becuz they have peicrings, but i do agree with you that lots of piercings make them look more ugly than if they didnt have them.” — Dredge

“How long has your piercing comments page been going? Youve got almost 80 comments so far.How long has it taken you to gt that many and have you deleted any?” [Editor's response: We started the page with two comments in January 2005. We haven't deleted any — once they've gone up they've stayed up, so far. But about 5% of comments we receive are either too abusive or too long to use.]

“Hulloo . Yes now are open for buisness. We offer peicing protectio n for all you peicing needs and promblms. We fix holes and ripair dammages to you skin from improfessional usage. cAll in to uss sometime if you need peicing helps. We atre peicing professionals.” — Froot4You Europe

“There has only ever been ONE case of someone getting HIV from a piercing, this was also due to ONE piercers negligence. You can catch infections just by falling over in the street, your more likely to get one from that then a piercing … By the way..the bible also insights hatred towards Jews, enforces slavery...but you don't see to preach these facts on your site.” — Joe [Editor's response: We asked Joe where the Bible incites hatred towards Jews. After all, Jesus was a Jew, so why would His Word incite hatred toward Himself? Joe did not reply.]

“Piercings are not ugly, they are a way to express yourself and if you pick a good place to get it done at you probably well have no problems with it. What’s wrong with drawing attention to yourself or being the person that you are? just because you don’t like piercings have nothing to do with the bible or God.” — Yelsel

“As Christian with fourteen piercings, I find your views on this topic very offending. Who are we as Christians to judge others and label someone with piercing as “ugly”? I find your statements a bit hypocritical and irrelevant to Christianity. Your prude views should spill over to hair dye and artificial tanning, and not being narrow-minded towards one form of tampering with the human body. Maybe you should do us all a favor and keep this a Christian page while you publicize your trite and commonplace ideas on a different website.” — Lauren from Long Beach

“I think that a girl having her ears pierced once is okay, but more than that is ridiculous. I think a guy should not have anything like that. Tattos are simply out of the question in my opinion.” — GodsGurl

“I've just read the article and all the comments. I'm an atheist and have a central labret and 2 others that are on the sides. So I have 3 on my bottom lip aswell as a nose piercing. I think piercings are a way to express yourself. If I ever get bored of them, I can remove them. I've also never had a problem getting a job, because people can see beyond the metal in my face and see the person I am....” — Julieanne

“let me say im 14 and atend a cahtolic schoool , an d i dont belive theirs anything rwong wiyth picings at all .. sum of my best frends also have nise picings its wots in ur heart that counts.” — sally

“open up your mind, not all tatoos are “skin grafiti” not all of them are ugly, most ppl have them as a sentamental picture of somthin they do not ever want to forget! … your views on every thing are wrong! you say that tatoo is accociated with ex convicts and anti socials, but its actualy acosiated with african tribals and self knowing. Same with the piercings. its for the rush of the pain not because its anti social! and mabey you should be concistant with your one sided and negitive thoughts and take a look at your bible! witch was writtin over 300 years after it was made, yes, the entire bible was transported by word of mouth for over 300 years, and how did no one change it? i bet they did. please dont be like he dosent kno what hes talking about, because i probably kno alot more than you... 17 years of catholic schooling.” — kully [Editor's response: Phew! Thank you Kully. It's hard to argue with 17 years of catholic schooling.]

“I think it's terrible the way you distort everyone's spelling when they disagree with your views on piercings. You're making it look like everyone who supports piercings can't spell or put two simple intelligent sentences together. ” — Evan [Editor's response: We don't change anybody's spelling or punctuation. We just copy and paste from the emails we receive. We sometimes cut down the length, but we leave criticisms and bad spelling intact.]

“I have nine piercings, not including the ones on my ears. I think it is completely rediculous that you are saying piercings are bad, and people shouldn't get them. Also you said they get infected and stuff, so can little cuts.” — Ashley

“personally I like the piercing look, I wouldn't go to extremes about the piercings but like in odd places. Who really wrote the bible, because I dont think in those genesis and exodus specify no piercings.” — Bored to death [Editor's response: Thanks Bored, but our article already says the Bible doesn't forbid piercings.]

“I just read the article on piercing, and I must declare that I am heavily upset by the article. … The bible is there for guidance. You should stop being narrow minded and stop using the bible as a backbone for your own personal views.” — Jacques

“For a long time young girls and some men like the Belly Button piercing and I am one of them. I think they are beautiful but they just need attention for the first lil bit after you get it done. I really don't see what is so bad about it, its not like we are going to wear shirts cut really high to show it off I mean the only time I would show it would be in the Summer or at the Beach in a bathing suit.” — Walt

“well i think that having body piercings are not wrong and definitely not UGLY! that is in fact your own opinions... i am a christian and have 10 body piercings including 5 in my left ear, 4 in my right and a belly button. i have had on health problems and have had them for 2 ( my bellybutton) and 5 (ears) . i do not do them to be " cool" , but i DO do them to please my self because i like them.. ” — jennifer

“I agree that body piercings are unhealthy. They're not “bad,” but the Bible tells us we are God's temple, so the choice is ours whether or not we keep His temple pure and healthy. I've heard of people having to get their tongue cut off because of a disease caused by a piercing. I think ear piercings are O.K. though. Sure, it may draw attention, but I can use it as a tool for witnessing.” —David-James

“I'm weird and like to be different. I am a Christian of the age of 12. I don't think that it is wrong to get body piercing. I want my lip pierced because i don't want to go get my ears pierced like everybody else. I only know 1 other person with their lip pierced. I don't think its wrong. And drawing attention to yourself can help because if your getting allot of attention and people are hanging around you a lot you can tell them about god.” —Rachel

“Ridiculous.. ask yourself why? Only one reason, 'look at me, look at me' . What I do like about it however, it gives me an insight into whats going around . If I have two good people applying for one of my jobs, I'll take the one without the piercings and Tatts. It's purely a vanity thing in having it done, and it flags the mindset of the wearer . Keep it up...it helps me discriminate .” —Russell

“If piercing are done correctly and placed aesthetically they will create enhancement — excitement and heightened self esteem for the wearer. Piercings are a personal thing and should not be judged by others peoples ignorance.” —Scooter

“Personally I do not agree at all with your article 'Body piercing has dangers'. You make it seem that piercing is a disgusting insult to yourself and others. This isn't true. Many people in this world consider piercing an art and think it to be beautiful. In your article you only look at the absolute worst case senarios but they aren't as common as you imply. There is nothing wrong with piercing, it's up to the person who's body I'll be on, and they shouldn't be condemmed for it…” —Blitz

“When will people with lotsa piercings get it! Lotsa piercings make you look ugly, ugly UGLY. OKay, one or two in your ears may look all right, but in noses, tongues, eyebrows etc you look ugly, ugly. UGLY. I can't emphasize this enough.” — Mojo

“your narrow-minded opinions disturb me. hate the sin, not the sinner. and quite frankly, i see no place in the bible where it says piercings are ugly, as too are the people with them. thats just your own shallow opinions. ” *-HaNNaH-*

“Howdy!! i got my belly button peirced not too long ago and i love it!! my friend peirced the little thing in the center of your ear with a stud. i want mine done but i dont know if i should or not. ” —*-kaila-*-

“As hiring manager for my firm I thought I was doing the right thing by not disciminating against job-seekers with heaps of piercings and tattoos. But honestly, these people just don't fit in with a bunch of regular employees. They go sullen because they feel like the odd one out, or they get a chip on their shoulder and think everyone's picking on them. Before long they leave and cost us a ton of money going through the replacement process again. Maybe they would fit in better in jobs where there are others who look like them, but my experience is you can't put them in areas dealing with the public because they lose you customers, and they don't stay long so they become costly to employ.” — Damien

“Growing up in a church i was always taught that one should never judge a person by their appearance. you are telling teens that if they have piercings that they are ugly, this upsets me. Piercings are a means of self expression, people get them done for their own personal satisfation.” — amy

“hi i am 17 and a christian, and have 14 piercings. … i personaly like piercings and find them atractive but if i was to become obsesed with them then that is wrong, and i am still accepted in my church and that is how it should be. the bible however does very clearly say not to mark our bodies and that is why i dont agree with tattos but dont think that piercings are marking the body coz they can be taken out.” — Leyla

“To claim that body piercing is looked down upon by religion, and that it makes you ugly, is nonsense. When done right it can be a beautiful thing, and its nothing but harmless fun when done in a professional and clean place.” — Sing the sorrow

“I have my Tongue Peirced, my ears peirced twice-my first peircing is gauged to a 2 and my 2nd holes are 10's. I also got a RELIGOUS tattoo. I am Catholic and I attend a Catholic school. I dont feel that getting peirced and tattooed is wrong nor with I feel that way. I play on getting more peircings and tattoos. I believe in God and love him. I am not satanic or atheist, although I lost my faith about a year or two ago.” — -Josh- -criminal-

“you also take a big risk saying everyone is ugly with body modification such as piercing. you probably could have kept your audience, as well as much more respect, if that had not been said. overall, as a college student who went to catholic school, has piercings, and doesnt neccessarily believe in religion, im part of your target audience. youre losing in a big way, so just think a little more before you post such a poorly researched, written, and thought out article.” — caroline

“Your articals on tatts and piercings are too soft. You need to point out that not only are tats and piercings ugly, but there are dangars involved. my friend Earle couldnt get a job till he plugged up the hole from his nose piercing. The plug doenst match the color of his skin and his nose looks worse than he ever did. And how come so many peple writing to you think they are Christians when they are obvioulsy Catholics. Catholics generally have no idea how to get salvation as Jesus offered it.” — Lobo [Editor's response: Salvation doesn't depend on the church you go to, or on good works, but on your relationship with Jesus Christ. Readers can look at this Flash Gospel presentation if they don't understand it.]

“I am a male christian teen age 14 and I have both my ears pierced and at the moment I have a 7.2 mm stretcher in my ear and I am gonna start streching the other soon. i think that christian teens having body piercings is fine that way u are more accepted into society and it is easier to spread the word wen u are respected. after all once ur 70 you can always take them out.” — Tristan

“I got my eyebrow pierced almost 2 months ago. After a recent epiphany I decided to take it out until I found out what the Bible and God had to say about having one. This article helped make the right decision to leave the ring out and although this is the first day I've had it out, I plan on sticking with the solution I've been shown.” — Brian

“i think that we should be abel to express our selves and show other people that we are like … i have my nose and tounge pierced and i really think that i made me feel better about my self that is what i think.” — Shelly

“I am known on the internet as Ghost Rider. I think a few well chosen and placed piercings are attractive. Too many piercings look tacky.” — Dete

“How can you turn a pretty girl's face into an average-looking face? Put a stud in it.” — Mort
