Charles Porkingham-Smythe - Bass Guitar

charlie.jpg (2780 bytes)Charlie started  playing banjo and guitar with the 'Crescent City Jazz Band' in 1964. Then played with the 'George Barbie Quartet' along with the Ken Howell Trio before joining Des Camm in 1972. Charlie is very experienced in playing in rock and pop bands of various styles. Also he is very experienced in musical theatre, playing roles in 'Kiss Me Kate' and 'Pippin' with the Geelong Musical Comedy Company and 'Pirates of Penzance' 'Oklahoma' and 'HMS Pinafore' with the Geelong Lyric Theatre Society - as well as singing with the Lyric Choir. Charles also has an interest in song writing.  After a long association with the electric bass, Charlie has now reverted to his first love, the double bass with the Grovelanders Jazz Band.
