DANGER DANGER ....this web page is a construction zone !!

Greetings fellow B9 robot fans, my name is Rick Bruce and I live in Melbourne Australia.

On the 1st of January 2003 I embarked on the construction of my B9 robot from the television series Lost in Space.
After surfing every available site that I could find, and securing the obligatory plans, I commenced construction. My main objective in this project was to build a reasonable facsimile of a childhood friend that would cause my friends to do a "double take", smile and remember a simpler time in life.

If you are interested in being a "hi tech" builder then there are many fine WWW sites that you can log onto and marvel at the work of these absolute master craftsman.
My advice to those about to embark upon a B9 project is to join a club and seek answers to your many questions, they form an incredibly helpful collective.

But Back to my project.
I wanted to build a prop...non motorized, no arms moving, just a big guy to stand in the corner!
I am however going to install a voice unit, which will be attached to my doorbell, to sound the obligatory warning warning!

I wanted to have a go at scratch building the treads, knees and torso myself. If you live in the states you might want to investigate the possibility of buying a torso, these torsos look fabulous.
If you do embark on making a torso it is challenging but heaps of fun, it was the first time I had ever fiberglassed, and half the fun was teaching yourself new skills.
I expect to have my robot finished in a month or two, which will mean he has taken about five months to build, which is fairly quick.
My advice is to take your time and do it at your leisure.

I have not been a traditionalist with my robot.
For example I widened the ribbing around the arm holes because I thought it looked better to my eye.
I tapered the leg foam in around the front zipper and then decided to flatten it out. Die hard fans will be aghast, but like I said, it's not going to shows or anything...JUST A PROP!

Included are a few photos which I will update shortly, he has been re textured and re painted since these shots where taken and looks much better.
If anyone has any construction questions I will be happy to correspond.

At this stage I would like to give a personal thanks to TRENT MILES who has been an invaluable help..thanks mate...and good luck with your B9.
I look forward to chatting with fellow B9ers and finishing this project off before embarking on the next one.
