English Electric DEUCE Sites
Following are known DEUCE sites.
English Electric Nelson Research Laboratory, Stafford
(where DEUCE was developed) DEUCE Mark I.
English Electric at Luton (Mark I)
English Electric Mechanical Engineering Laboratory at
Whetstone, near Leicester. Two DEUCE Mark I, one of which was
enhanced in 1961 with 7 extra delay lines, making it a Mark IA.
Also included the Atomic Power division.
English Electric Main Works at Stafford (transformer design)

Marconi Research Labs, The Marconi Company, Greta Baddow, Essex, UK,
had a DEUCE Mk II that was installed in early 1959.
It was in use until about 1965 when replaced by a KDF9.

National Physical Laboratory, Teddington
This remained the original 32-column machine. (DEUCE Mark 0)
Universities
- New South Wales University of Technology, Kensington, Australia (later
renamed The University of New South Wales) (DEUCE Mark I with
5-channel paper tape I/O and online printer (Siemens M100)).
- Liverpool University (DEUCE Mark I with English Electric paper tape
reader and Creed paper tape punch equipment)
The machine was acquired by the Stafford Technical College
in 1964.
- Queen's University, Belfast (DEUCE Mark I)
- Glasgow University. DEUCE Mark I
Aircraft Industry
- Bristol Aircraft Company, Filton (two DEUCE)
- Bristol Siddeley Engines, Patchway (two DEUCE)
- Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough (two DEUCE Mark I)
- British Aircraft Corporation, Warton near Preston (two DEUCE Mark I)
Ship building
- Short Brothers & Harland, Belfast, Ireland
Someone has suggested that the DEUCE was used in their
aircraft division. Does anyone know?
Service Bureaus
- Kidsgrove Data Center, Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs
(DEUCE Mark I and a Mark IIA with magnetic tape)
- London Computing Service, London (DEUCE Mark I)
- Oslo (Norwegan Government) DEUCE Mark I.
Electricity
- Central Electricity Generation Board
Ford Motor Company, possibly at Dagenham, had
at least one DEUCE and probably two, supplemented by a further
two DEUCE by about 1963. [This has been disputed.]
Reactor and Atomic Weapon design.
- AWRE (Atomic Weapons Research Establishment)
at Aldermaston. DEUCE Mark I.
- U K A E A at Capenhurst DEUCE Mark II.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food had
three Mark II DEUCE.
BP at Aldgate, London - DEUCE for siesmic work.
DSIR at Kilbride, Glasgow. DEUCE Mark I.
