| Sakya
Dolma Choe Ling is a Tibetan Buddhist centre in the Sakya tradition
based in Sydney, Australia.
The main gathering place of the center is a beautiful private gompa in
the peaceful suburb of Eastwood, only 30 min drive from Sydney inner
city. Our teacher is
Lama Choedak
Rinpoche an
eminent and
innovative teacher in the West who is a principal pupil and heart son
of His
Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, head of the Tsharpa School and
teacher of many major Tibetan Buddhist teachers, including His Holiness
the Dalai Lama. Lama Choedak Rinpoche has been born in Tibet, escaped to Nepal during the Chinese invasion and received teachings for 12 years under the personal tutelage of HE Chogye Trichen Rinpoche in Nepal. He completed a solitary three and a half year retreat under the sponsorship of HH the Dalai Lama and came to the West where he has been teaching since 1987. Lama Choedak Rinpoche is in great demand as a teacher and translator in many countries and has established centres in the major cities in Australia and New |
Zealand,
of which Sakya Dolma Choe Ling is one. Lama Choedak Rinpoche comes
to Sydney regularly to hold workshops and to give teachings about six
times a year. In addition, the centre runs free meditation courses at two locations and conducts regular practice sessions (see Upcoming Events). There is also a study group based on the distance education arm of Rongton College, the educational programme started by Lama Choedak Rinpoche. Furthermore we hold retreats regularly and have access to frequent teachings and retreats at Virupa Centre, Lama Choedak Rinpoche's beautiful hilltop bushland centre at Queynbean, just outside Canberra. Lama Choedak Rinpoche is an accomplished and inspiring modern Buddhist teacher, not only fully versed in the skills and study of his tradition but also eloquent in English. He is able to provide us with teachings appropriate for the modern day life and is very familiar with the Western mind. |
