A Book by Lama Choedak Rinpoche, published by Lothian Books

About 90 people attended the launch of Rinpoche’s book “Healing Relationships” which was held on Friday 23rd Sept at the Buddhist Library. Susan Benson was a skilled and gracious presenter of the launch and we were very privileged to have Rev Bill Crews and Petrea King give short speeches. Rinpoche gave a talk about the value of compassion and forgiveness in our health and our relationships. He spoke not only about his own personal experiences but also about the experiences of the Tibetan people of loss and rejection and having to learn to forgive.

Through Rinpoche's eyes, we came closer to understanding the impermanence of all things, including relationships, and he discussed how our own expectations and perceptions of others can actually be unrealistic and sometimes harmful. With a heart open to forgiveness, he said, we heal ourselves by not hanging on to the damaging thoughts that we had been allowing to perpetuate in our minds. By taking the opportunity to think differently about situations, and recognising the limitations of our own perceptions, we could free ourselves of anger and hatred, which were incredibly destructive to the wellbeing of ourselves and others.

It is important, that we not only forgive for the sake of our own healing while still perceiving the other as 'the bad one'. We rather need to forgive for the sake of everyone involved.
