Words of Wisdom
by Lama Choedak Rinpoche

from a workshop on WORK AS SERVICE - Extraordinary Mindfulness in the Ordinary Workplace

What are we to do with our time? If we love what we do, we will be happy and can benefit many others. We experience results of our performance at work. If we bring  sincerity and dedication to our work, we will be happy with our work and we can make others happy. It is at work we learn to practice our values of generosity, tolerance, compassion, humility and forgiveness. Since it is at work that we create all sorts of karma, it is paramount to have extra mindfulness at work.

Daily Vow of Positive Resolution

I am grateful that I am healthy today and have the opportunity to work here. I will offer my services for which I am employed with best of my abilities and power. In carrying out my duties and responsibilities I shall be kind, courteous and respectful of everyone in this work environment. I am dedicated to create a compassionate, supportive and peaceful work environment. I shall work honestly to help the employer as if I am working for myself. May I be patient, kind, and caring to all people here and may I do my work with mindfulness and conscious effort of joy and gratitude!
Daily Dedication of Gratitude

It is that time of the day to offer my gratitude to everyone who has helped me today to do my work. All the dedication of others that I have witnessed and whatever good things I have accomplished, I shall dedicate all these for the happiness of the employer, employee and all beings. If I have said, thought or done anything unkind, I beg the pardon of all and confess them with deep regret. May all beings be happy at work as I have been today! May all sentient beings be filled with happiness and causes of happiness!
