What is a Russian?

The Russian Blue is a serene and elegant cat with a quiet sweet voice. To its owner it is a loyal companion with intelligence, curiosity and cleverness that make it easily trained. Not a pushy cat it settles into its environment and quickly becomes friends with other pets including cats and dogs.

A delightful companion cat that will suit an individual, a couple or a family. Some consider them to be shy but they are more cautious about unfamiliar situations or people. Once they have accessed the situation the Russian becomes relaxed and very interested in new events or people.

When you pick a Russian up and they are very relaxed they seem to melt into your arms.

The Russian has a 'presence' about it and is not a cat of extremes.

To touch a Russian is like gliding your hand over soft velvet and then letting your fingers sink into the rich plushness of their coat. The colour of the coat is a medium blue with each hair shaft tip void of colour giving the coat a silvery sheen as the cat moves around. They look up at you with soft gentle green almond shaped eyes. Delightful to encounter, wonderful to share your life with.

Russian Blue Fairy-tale

An Ancient Russian fairy-tale tells the story of how seven fairies gathered around the cradle of a princess with their gifts.

• One gave her a fearless spirit,
• Another a loyal heart,
• A third said she would be slim and beautiful all her life,
• The fourth that her every movement would be graceful,
• The fifth said she would always wear silver, silk and velvet,
• The sixth brought her two huge emeralds
• And the seventh said she would find friends wherever she went in the world.

However, these fairies were rather young and inexperienced at bestowing gifts and they could not believe this tiny red screaming baby would ever grow into a beautiful princess. So they gently placed their gifts in another crib where there was only quiet purring.

And that is how the Russian Blue came to be such a particularly beautiful and gifted cat!
