Formula One, Indy Car, Champ Car, Formula 3000, Formula Nippon, Formula 4000 and Formula 5000 - the fastest cars in the world, and on Australian circuits as part of the Oz BOSS Championship and the 2006 Australian Motor Racing Series.

Formula One cars are recognised as the pinnacle of Motor Racing. Amazing aerodynamics, composite technology, low weight, 20,000 rpm engines, and the ongoing battle for the FIA to keep speeds under control all combine to make F1 the most technical of all categories.

While Formula One is probably the fastest overall package, the oval-racers of the IndyCar Racing League actually reach higher top speeds - around 400km/h in fact! IRL cars are instantly recognisable, and of course race at one of the most famous of all racing circuits - Indianapolis .

America's answer (along with IndyCar) to Formula One is Champ Car - while Champ Car and IndyCar share a common fuel (methanol), Champ Car is different in that it places more of an emphasis on road courses. The cars are slightly heavier than F1 cars, but are turbocharged, and have regularly been a match in terms of horsepower.

Formula 3000, Formula Nippon and Formula 4000 all use the same chassis technology as the categories mentioned above - carbon-fibre monocoque construction, and were developed as a feeder category for F1. These cars have seen some of the world's best talent cut their teeth and prove their skill, and actually produce speeds and laptimes remarkably close to the other categories.

Formula 5000 captured the imagination of Motor Racing fans around the world. With Formula One style chassis, and aerodynamics, and the classic thunder of 5-litre V8 engines, Formula 5000 is an amazing category.
