SELKE THE MOVIEEarlier this year a film crew was shooting a movie in and around the jetty and esplanade area. Pictured is a beachcombers cottage that was constructed for the film. The basic story line is of a boy who turns into a seal when he enters the water. The movie is due for release in about 12 months time.NEW LOCAL GROUPFriends of the Esplanade are interested in improving the esplanade between Beach Road And Port Noarlunga Jetty. They have identified heavy and speeding traffic as detrimental to the enjoyment of this area. For more information contact Mary Wagner on 83826295. | SAND DUNE REPLANTINGSOUTHPORT NOARLUNGA COASTCARE group have won a $40,000 grant from the federal government to revegetate the sand dunes between Port Noarlunga and the Onkaparinga River mouth. The volunteers hope to plant more than 5000 native plants and restore fences to protect and stabilise the dunes. The vegetation is important to bind the sand and prevent erosion of the dune system. Foot traffic damages the native grasses that secure the sand leading to erosion. The fences deter visitors from leaving the defined tracks. Sand boarding also causes extensive damage and it is important that this activity be deterred through education and enforcement. The top picture shows a sand blow out and the bottom picture regrowth on the sand dunes.

BOARDWALK ON MARCHThe boardwalk extension from the Perry Bend car park on River Road westwards towards The wetland pond is already proving popular with fishermen. The walkway provides a safe passage between the two wetland walking areas as well as a good platform for fishing. It wll be interesting to see if the platform survives the first ten year flood in the river. A freshly built permapine foot bridge succumbed shortly after construction in the Onkaparinga ford area at Old Noarlunga. It is to be hoped that a similar fate does not befall this new construction.DIVERS PLEASE NOTE: The new Aluminium ladder has been removed from the end of the Jetty presumably for cleaning before the summer rush.
