Australia Day Celebrations

Traditional Australia day celebrations were held on January 26th. The public holiday commemorates the landing of the first fleet in 1788.

Naturalisation ceremonies were performed locally at Noarlunga Theatre. Outside the theatre there was free entertainment and a free breakfast served by the Rotary Club and Port Noarlunga Sea Scouts.

Festivities continued with stalls and entertainment on Beach Road. Later in the day a parade proceeded down Beach Road led by troopers on horse back.

Brawl at fireworks

A police officer received a severe head cut when struggling with an offender during a fight at about 900pm. The fight began after police moved in to arrest a man for assaulting another man. A police spokesman said "an offender was arrested for assault and a few of his mates tried to help him." Police waited until after family groups had left the celebrations before moving in and making several arrests.

Roadworks proceeding
